Password Complexity

An administrator can improve security by using Access Control to enforce password complexity and rotation.

An administrator, with Access Control management permissions, can control the password complexity level, by specifying the minimum values for password length, number of lowercase characters, number of uppercase characters, number of special characters and digits, and by specifying the password expiration period.

When the password expiration period approaches, the users receive an email to reset their password. A password history is provided to restrict reusing old passwords. The administrator can specify how many old passwords are saved in the history.

To specify password complexity

  1. Open the Password Complexity panel.

  2. Enter values for the following fields:

    • Minimum password length - minimum number of characters used in passwords

    • Minimum no of digits - minimum number of characters used in passwords

    • Minimum no of lowercase characters - minimum number of lowercase characters used in passwords

    • Minimum no of uppercase characters - minimum number of uppercase characters used in passwords

    • Minimum no of non-alphanumeric characters - minimum number of special characters, such as !,?, and #, used in passwords

    • Password age in days - Expiration period (in days) for passwords

    • No of passwords remembered - Number of previously used passwords saved in the password history.

  3. Check Enforce password history to restrict the use of previously used passwords.

  4. Click UPDATE.
